More Fun in the Water, More Fun on Land

Small Country Campground is offering more fun on Lake Ruth Ann this year with five giant lake toys to challenge the athletic and the not-so athletic. The trampoline meets everyone’s needs while the giant ice berg gives even the toughest people a tussle. Spin on the Spinner or rock the Rock-It. Together they make up our aqua Park. Free to campers or a day fee to guests. And on land the huge Bouncing Pillow continues to be the most popular blow-up on the property. We have counted up to 90 kids on the pillow at one time. The mini-golf course is a smashing success providing hours of entertainment to the entire family. This challenging course is 100% ADA accessible throughout the entire 18 holes. Several holes-in-one were scored this year. And what beauty…the flowers and trees are just perfect from Spring through Winter.

Tours from Small Country’s Gates

Central Virginia is wine country and Small Country has just the tour for you. In fact, if you’re planning to take the wine route from the Campground, ask in advance for 25% off during your entire stay and then ask for our exclusive Small Country Wine Tour flyer. New this year, we are offering a tour of the Trevilian Station Battlefield, largest all-cavalry battle of the Civil War, on Saturday, June 15. Provide your own transportation or sign up for the bus. The tour will have about 10 stops including the house where Gen. George Custer directed his troops and the Exchange Hotel that served as the hospital for hundreds of soldiers, both North and South, complete with surgical equipment of the day and uniforms of the wounded. Bring your coolers and eats or eat in one of the fine restaurants along the way.

Fourth of July (Independence Day)

is probably America’s most significant holiday. The freedom Americans felt and feel when we declared independence from Great Britain is celebrated with fervor. Flags and bunting go up and fireworks mark the occasion everywhere. Folks celebrate with hot dogs and burgers and steak on the grill. Come enjoy the show with cold drinks and time with friends. Families gather at Small Country to share this special occasion, and enjoy “the best fireworks show around” – according to many repeat customers — that we fire off over Lake Ruth Ann at Small Country. In addition, there are always ongoing horseshoe and corn hole tournaments, fire truck rides, hay rides, the pool, the beaches, and live music Saturday night. Plus games and face painting and free mini golf. How better to celebrate America’s freedom and prosperity.

Another new addition to the Small Family.

Welcome Seamus William O’Donnell, the sixth Great Grandchild of Bill & Ruth Small. Also shown is mother, Brady (Small) O’Donnell, husband Tim and proud big brother Timmy. The O’Donnell’s have been managing the campground together starting in July 2018.

Plans & Updates for 2019

Nearly 40 of our sites have been retrofitted with sewer and Directv. Those include 20 in the Black section and 14 in Orange, plus one in Green. A new wi-fi system has been installed with remote antennas in nearly 20 locations throughout the campground, providing greatly increased bandwidth for all sites, play areas and pool. The system also gives the store and office much better service. A new television system (still DirecTV) is being built this winter that should give campers up to 138 channels (currently we can provide only 35). New offerings will expand sports coverage. In addition, all channels will be high definition. We have added a large new Maintenance Building that will centralize parts and provide a central location for our maintenance staff, improving efficiency. We continue to work on Liberty Park to make it better for special events like Que & Cruz and the Battle of the Bands. Please support these charity events.
